Movies to Anticipate in 2014(January- April): What to look forward to!

It's another year of amazing flicks! The year began by awarding the deserving motion pictures of last year at the Golden Globes (American Hustle, 12 Years A Slave, Her).

But...this year seems promising! There are a whole lot of movies which are to be released to the big screen this year.

I have compiled a timeline with some movies to be released from January to April, and some reasons why you should be looking forward.

January
That Awkward Moment
Release Date: January 31

Synopsis
After their friend Mikey's (Jordan) break-up, Jason (Efron) and Daniel (Teller) promise to stay single with him. However, they both end up falling in love and have to avoid facing their promise.

Why Should You See it?: It's a chance to see the handsome Michael B. Jordan in a role where he doesn't die (Chronicle, curse you Dane DeHaan) or make you cry after dying (Fruitvale Station). It's also a romantic comedy with the adorable Miles Teller from Project X and the oh-so-hot-HSM-didn't-do-him-justice Zac Efron.

February
The LEGO
® Movie
Release Date: February 7

Trailer

Why Should You See It?: We loved these things when we were younger! We built countries with them (I did)! And how about the fact that some of your favourite DC superheroes are in their adorable LEGO forms (LEGO Batman (Will Arnett), is way cuter and maybe even better than Christian Bale!). Then, how cute is the clueless, naive and average joe, Emmet (Chris Pratt) trying to take down a super evil tyrant?

The Monuments Men
Release Date: February 7

SynopsisBased on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history, the film focuses
on an unlikely World War II platoon, tasked by President Franklin Roosevelt with going
behind enemy lines in Germany, risking their lives to rescue mankind's greatest artistic
masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. No mean feat!

Why Should You See It?: If you love history, this promises to be another exciting biopic flick (like Argo!). If you don't fancy history, I mean, just look at that poster; George Clooney, Matt Damon and Jean Dujardin are together! If on the other hand, you don't care about such, and you love Indiana Jones, (Crystal Skull, to be precise), this is something along that line.

Nonstop
Release Date: February 21

Synopsis: A disenchanted veteran Air Marshal, Bill Marks (Liam Neeson), sees his job as mediocre. However, on a fateful flight from New York to London, he receives mysterious, threatening, text messages ordering him to facilitate the transfer of $150 million by the government into a secret account or risk the death of passengers at intervals of 20 minutes.

Trailer

Why Should You See It? : If you hated The Taking of Pelham 123, or liked it just a little, I'm sure you'd love Non-Stop. Who doesn't love Liam Neeson getting into some gun-and-muscle action while trying to save a life (Taken). Also a must watch for lovers of hostage scenarios (Olympus Has Fallen, Red Eye).
One more thing, Hollywood's newest darling, Lupita Nyong'o makes an appearance.

March
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Release Date: March 7

Trailer

Why Should You See It?: It's star-studded, it's hilarious and it looks like the colourful reality of one of those image pop-up books we had as kids. I can best describe it as Hugo meets Dark Shadows meets The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

Anita
Release Date: March 21

Trailer

Why Should You See It?: Who doesn't love scandal (I also mean Kerry Washington/Olivia Pope's Scandal, as well)?! I mean, Monica Lewinsky's name still pops up is some conversations! This is the true story of a brave and powerful sexual harassment accusation against then-supreme court justice nominee, Clarence Thomas by lawyer and present day Brandeis University professor, Anita Hill in 1991 before congress, igniting a political firestorm.
Doesn't the trailer speak volumes?

Noah
Release Date: March 28

Trailer

Why Should You See It?: If you really liked the concept of Evan Almighty, or like to see biblical stories come to life, this is for you! And it's done my none other than Darren Aronofsky! (Black Swan, The Fountain) (I want to know what goes on in his mind). Russell Crowe also gets his Gladiator on as Noah and tries to save his family from impending doom in form of a worldwide flood. Did I mention, that the dreamy Messrs. Logan Lerman and Douglas Booth also play two of his sons!

April
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Release Date: April 4
SynopsisTwo years after the events of The Avengers, Steve Rogers (Chris Evansresides peacefully in Washington, D.C., struggling to adapt to contemporary society. However, after a S.H.I.E.L.D. compatriot is assailed, Steve becomes entangled in a mystery that may endanger the globe. Together with Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson), Captain America attempts to uncover the growing machination while fending off hired hit men. When the entire scheme is discovered, Captain America and the Black Widow must recruit the aid of the Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and soon encounter an unanticipated, powerful and brainwashed nemesis — The Winter Soldier, who was once his dear friend Bucky (Sebastian Stan).

Why Should You See It?: Well, it's Marvel. It's a superhero movie. And there's a hotness overload! Chris Evans (the dreamiest man in the superhero-sphere, since his days as Johnny Storm), reprises his role as the kindest and bravest Avenger while he is joined by the swoony Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, who now plays a villain! (I want to see that). Dudes, you're not left out: ScarJo is back!

Draft Day
Release Date: April 11

Trailer

Why Should You See It?: Well, who doesn't like a good sport movie (Think Rush, The Blind Side, The Game Plan and even Chariots of Fire!), especially one about the NFL? Kevin Costner is back this year after Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, and it's nice to see that he still looks goood at this age. He's joined by Mrs. Affleck, Jennifer Garner, and does she ever go wrong?

Transcendence
Release Date: April 17
SynopsisDr. Will Caster (Johnny Depp) is an artificial intelligence researcher who strives to create a machine that possesses sentience and collective intelligence. Extremists who oppose technological advancement target him, but their actions drive him toward his goal. Caster also wants to become part of the new technology, and his wife Evelyn (Rebecca Hall) and his best friend Max Waters (Paul Bettany), also researchers, question the wisdom of this drive. Caster's goal to acquire knowledge becomes one to acquire power, and he seems to be unstoppable.

Why Should You See It?: Ingenious ingénieur, Christopher Nolan is producing! Not enough reason? Who doesn't like to see Paul Bettany (Legion, The Tourist) or hear his impeccable British voice (JARVIS; Iron Man franchise)? He acts again with his amazing actor, Tourist co-star...Johnny Depp: The man who can take on any persona and the two word-reason you are going to see this sci-fi thriller!
